Victoria Falls is considered to be the world’s largest curtain of water. The locals call it ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’, meaning ‘smoke that thunders’. This is an apt name since the falls looks like rising smoke when viewed from air. The falls are located on the Zambezi River, between Zambia and Zimbabwe. They are composed of 6 separate falls divided by islands on the Zambezi. The Scottish explorer David Livingstone was the first European to discover the falls. He first laid eyes on them on November 16, 1855. He named the falls after Queen Victoria. In his diary, Livingstone wrote, “…scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.” No one has since been able to describe the breathtaking beauty of the falls better.
